Frost crawled slowly along the edges of the window as snowflakes drifted down onto the snow-laden ground outside. Swaths of blankets surrounded me, causing warm drafts of air to surround my skin. I curl my fingers around my mug of hot chocolate. Amidst the sea of brown drink, islands of pale marshmallow begin to melt slowly, creating white swirls in the deep cocoa beverage. Placing the lip of the cup against my frozen ones, I take a sip and let the coziness run down my throat and flow through my body.
On the side stood a Christmas tree. It was wrapped with all of its ornaments and decorations that glistened as the candlelight and illuminated the room with a soft glow. Below the magnificent green giant sat a multitude presents, each one in its entirety- carefully wrapped complimented by a neatly tied bow with its ribbons dangling down.
A radio played Christmas music off to the side. The sound of bells jingling and voices singing my favorite tunes floated into my ear. Accompanying the notes was the sweet scent of baked cookies that still hung in the air, some sitting on a plate and yet to be eaten. The fire cackled as it burned its fueling wood to ashes. Above the fire hung hand-sewn stockings, empty. But I know that the spaces were just waiting to be filled.
The night continued to pass on as drowsiness snuck up behind me and caught me in its trap. I began to drift off into a dream of a vast winter wonderland and workshop of toys. I could’ve sworn I heard a jingle of bells on the roof right before I slipped into a slumber.
Can i have that (plus a little more) for Christmas? <3
